Hailing from Boston, Bermuda Search Party is a band known for its high energy sound and raucous live show. The indie pop four-piece has just released their full-length sophomore album entitled Fools on Parade, a genre-jumping eight-song offering that showcases the band’s unwavering support and love for each other.
“In the past, we recorded live with some overdubs later,” says vocalist/bassist Claire Davis of the new album. “This was the first time where we truly started from the ground up. We focused on what each song needed as opposed to what we’d been doing with it on tour.“
The album kicks off on a bright, boppy note with the first track, “Olivia”. This is a summertime song, with its playful and infectious sound. By the second song, “Asking 4 A Friend,” I’m starting to think Bermuda Search Party is incapable of writing a song that isn’t incredibly catchy. This particular earworm features melodic vocals, and a bit of a funkier approach. Vocal leads then switch from Leo Son to Claire Davis in “July”. This track has more of a mellow, sultry sound–partially due to Davis’ wonderful singing style–creating a palpable vibe that is a cool departure from the previous songs on the album.
“Halfway Home” switches gears with its pared-down, folk-tinged sound, and “Sed N Dun” brings back the energy as the dedicated party anthem on Fools on Parade. Bermuda Search Party has created this track listing to keep listeners locked in, as “Used To Know” showcases musical depth and a wistful feel, only to lead into the accessible earworm that is “End of the Road”.The album ends with the acoustic track, “Shiver”. The two vocals harmonizing together on this one is just such a perfect way to close out this collection, and wrap up a stellar release.
Overall, this album is a solid set of indie pop gems with a slew of sonic surprises throughout.
