UK band 9 o’clock Nasty are known for their uniqueness and a sound that can’t be pigeonholed into one style or genre. Once you think you’ve got them figured out, they pivot, side-step, and create something completely unexpected. They’ve just released their latest single, “Too Cool”, a “stripped down snarl” with a funky rock vibe that’s been spun into something undeniably 9 o’clock Nasty.
“Too Cool is 9 o’clock Nasty’s first collaboration with Quebecois music producer Hugo GT, a man with 6 strings where his raw black heart should be and the cultural awareness of an aroused weasel doped up on illegal substances.”, says the band. “We wrote an expansive rock classic. He took our beautiful song and twisted and tortured it beyond recognition. We thank him for his service, but we would never sit next to him on a bus. A true professional. “
Aside from the fact that I can only assume getting a pint with this trio would result in an eventful and memorable time (and who wouldn’t be on board for that?!), I’m always excited to see a new release from them hit my inbox. “Too Cool” is another gem in their discography, with edgy vocals, infectious guitar riffs, and a nostalgic aspect to the song that makes it feel familiar but completely different. It has punk vibes and a stellar groove tacked onto a British post-punk sound, and will have you happily yelling the lyrics along with them. 9 o’clock Nasty is compelling as ever, always offering a unique and inspired take on different sonic styles.
