David Gestiehr – “Parasite”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: Davis’ latest offering, Parasite, produced by Davis Gestiehr and Todd Wright (Ryan Wright, Sister Hazel, Cassette), and mastered by Mat Leffler-Shulman (Beach House, Blondie, Bryce Xavier) offers an array of influences, pulling from both indie classics and 80’s post-punk. The influences of bands like The Cure, DIIV, and Echo and the Bunnymen run deeper than just aesthetics.

Kenton Mackay ****** – “My Brain Is Fucked”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “My Brain Is Fucked” is a song that just poured out of me. Once I had the scratchy rhythm guitar down, the fuzzed out lead followed suit. It had this fun but dark vibe to it that was the perfect background to tell the story of a night of self destructive bliss.

stone corners – “She”

Country: Spain

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “She” is a song against gender based violence. The song was recorded in Ibiza and mixed in Madrid (Spain).

teh end – “Hubris, Pt. 2”

Country: US

Genre: Grunge

Words From the Artist: “Hubris, Pt 2” looks at apathy, blinding materialism and the compromise of values. It’s an appeal for critical thinking and challenging hegemonic thinking.

FRANKIE FLOWERS – “I Just Want To Disappear”

Country: Canada

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: After an abysmal breakup and many shifts working coat check at a Toronto concert venue, FRANKIE FLOWERS felt the sudden urge to use her voice as her main instrument. She began writing and creating alternative music as a release, merging her love for dark-wave and post-punk music to create a genre-bending sound. The emerging artist evokes a dark, psychedelic, and eclectic vibe that urges you to escape reality and experience the unknown. “I JUST WANT TO DISAPPEAR” contains the thoughts of a negative headspace. It’s about chasing toxicity, repeating vicious cycles and how your mind can basically eat you alive if you choose to let it.

Spider Rockets – “Monster of Your Dreams”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: In their most recent single, “Monster of Your Dreams,” Spider Rockets explores the threat of terrors that extend into our waking hours. Crashing onto the scene with distorted riffs and pounding drums, the band manifests an atmosphere of disturbed confusion. Seductive and sinister, Cos wails out the perfidious proposition of a lurking, menacing presence. Over whomping bass runs, Cos’s lyrics mock the insanity of temptation and our enslavement to subtle evils that coax us from our peace. As the tempo accelerates, Nap howls through a solo before Cos chants this banger to bed.

You Citizen – “Too Bright”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “It’s my first release and I guess the song is about navigating self-doubt throughout the artistic expression process. As you know it can be a little scary putting yourself out there, so I just thought I’d sing about it:) “

Tractor Beam – “Sex Appeal”

Country: Canada

Genre: Indie Rock

Words From the Artist: Sex Appeal is an honest exploration of ego and identity as an anxious performer navigating the nuances of finding (or not finding) success. Subsequently singer songwriter Sasha Balazic is at his most confident and vulnerable – and the band follows suit – laying the foundation for Tractor Beam’s largest effort to date.

Grrrl Gang – “Spunky!”

Country: Indonesia

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: The song itself essentially describes vocalist Sentana’s experience during a manic episode. “I feel like I’m on top of the world, untouchable. I do things without thinking, always chasing after that feeling of instant gratification. I feel extra confident in myself—to a point of grandiose thinking—and that I could do anything,” Sentana explains.

COMMONER – “Pillar”

Country: Australia

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “Pillar was written from a place of overwhelming exasperation with modern day politics and the complete lack of concern our leaders seem to have about doing anything remotely meaningful to reverse the effects of climate change or even attempt to assess the continually rising inequality and marginilisation in our country. The song started as a guitar riff that wouldn’t get out of head, forcing me to get up in the middle of the night and make a demo the kind of resembled the final version of the song. Once the music was there, the lyrics followed suit; at the time I couldn’t shake the feeling that our leaders know exactly what the problems are and exactly how they could fix them, they just simply don’t care. I still believe this sentiment to this day, so singing this song is a great way to release and share the frustration in the hopes of turning it into something a bit more positive”
