Asheville, NC band, The Silver Doors are a psych-rock outfit that pays homage to the Appalachian mountains they call home, by blending elements of psychedelic rock, garage, blues, and the unique sound of an effects-laden electric violin. They’ve just released their debut album, fittingly named The Silver Doors, featuring eight new songs that touch on all of the band member’s inspirations and styles.

We recorded this album in a couple parts between late 2022 and mid-2023 at Drop of Sun Studios here in Asheville, NC,” says the band. “As our debut album, I think it captures our sound nicely and is a great jumping off point for anything that comes next. We thoroughly loved writing and recording it and love playing music as a group of friends, so we’re thrilled that it’s out in the universe for people to tune into.

The album opens with “Redeemer,” that boasts an inviting intro and a psychedelic-meets-classic-rock flair. A perfect introduction that sets the tone for this eclectic collection of songs. “Losing Time” has a mellower groove offset by chugging guitars, while “Shattered” takes it down even more. But here comes another twist and turn, as “Bulletteeth” brings the the grit – huge rock energy on this one, with raw vocals, hard-hitting drums and fuzzed-up guitar. “Legwork” has a surf rock vibe, while “Gone” is reminiscent of Pink Floyd at their most introspective (think “Comfortably Numb” or “Breathe”), and then “Holding Pattern” injects a dose of catchy and compelling style into the mix. The album finishes off with the heavy and intense “Dirtnap”, which may be my favourite on the release. It’s a fuzzy, grungy sound with the kind of vocals you wanna yell along with – this one is sure to be a favourite at the band’s live shows. Overall, their self-titled album is a sonic journey through varied styles and distinctive sounds. No two tracks are too alike, creating interest with each of the eight songs.
