The Veils – “Bullfighter (Hand of God)”
Country: US
Genre: Indie Rock
Words From the Artist: “During a non-covid related flu earlier last year, I was struck down with a debilitating 40° fever. While the fever was at its height I hallucinated I was a lumbering, wounded bull being cajoled by a sinewy figure dressed all in red. As I limped around the burning arena, he threw his knives into my back as my temperature went higher and higher. Needless to say, it was a bit of a rough night. Once my temperature dropped and I got some presence of mind back again, I wrote this song as a way to remember him.”

Che Aimee Dorval – “The Crowned”
Country: Canada
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: “I think sometimes people forget that the fight for equality means just that. Having the same as, rather than more than. That truth always gets lost in the fear and emotions of it all. It doesn’t help that we’re taught that there’s not enough of anything to go around, so you better fight to hold on to your piece. ‘The Crowned’ is about fighting to share the same space. It’s about climbing up to sit next to the person who has occupied the throne for so long, not to dethrone them.”

Sarah Dishart and Filthy Rich – “She Runs Wild”
Country: Canada
Genre: Folk Rock
Words From the Artist: “On this particular day, I was reading the news and I was impacted by a devastating story of a mother losing all of her children over night in a house fire. This woman escaped – but to what life? I cannot imagine how one would move on or recover from this event. If you had any faith in God, surely that faith would be broken. Surely, no matter how strong you are, and regardless of what supports you have in your life, one would lose touch with reality and have a nervous breakdown. This very chaos was being mirrored in the life of one of my closest friends. She has been living a reality for quite a number of years that is different than most around her and she often becomes shall we say unhinged from the world she lives within. She has had many hospitalizations, all with a very clear rationale as to why she was so dramatic prior to each admission. Perhaps it is a survival tactic as a result of trauma? Maybe it is genetic or a combination of both? I have not made sense of it and on this particular day, I envisioned both my friend, and this other woman who is a stranger to me, losing their mind. In a way, this story I read in the news became a safer way to talk about my friend and her diagnosis of schizophrenia. The mind can be your friend and sometimes it can be your worst enemy. When this world becomes all too much, whether as escape or in liberation, she runs wild… like a fire.”
