The Steens – “Heaven”

Country: US

Genre: Garage Rock

From the Artist: “If life was a dream, then dying must be the moment when we wake up…it’s so simple. We think the hard parts dying, that’s the easy part. The hard part is living. That’s what people mean when they talk about going to heaven, so have a good day.”

The Mellons – “Hello, Sun”

Country: US

Genre: Indie Rock

From the Artist: “Hello, Sun paints the picture of someone waiting for the sun to come up and chase away their problems. On its face, it’s just a simple ode to the power of sunlight. Beneath the surface though, it gets a little more complicated. The lyrics reveal that the singer isn’t so sure he can count on the sun coming up. For that matter, it’s not so clear that the sun will be a welcome guest when it finally does arrive. Ultimately, it’s really a commentary about the push and pull of fatalism and self-determination in our own lives. “The song arises from my experiences with spirituality and religious belief. When I was younger, I was taught to believe that an all-seeing entity would guide my life if I just put enough trust in it. As an adult, I feel much more certain that I have to make my own way in life. For me, ‘Hello, Sun’ is actually more of a ‘goodbye’ to old traditions and old beliefs.” —Rob Jepson (featured on vocals) The song was recorded at SunSpell Records in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was engineered by Dennis Fuller (The Mellons) and mixed by Kevin Basko (Foxygen, Rubber Band Gun)”

Foreign Television – “Vending Machine”

Country: UK

Genre: Alt Rock

From the Artist: “The song is about feeling powerless in a place that you find relentlessly depressing. It’s about living and working in an environment that seems deliberately designed to make people miserable. Where everything looks the same and they put spikes on the street to make sure homeless people can’t lie down. The vending machine in the song refers to an offer from the bosses at an especially mind-numbing office job the songwriter once had. A meeting was called and it was announced that, if the employees proved their loyalty and worked especially hard for the next 3 months, they would be allowed access to the vending machine that was sitting right next to them. The bosses thought that letting the workers buy themselves a can of coke and a packet of crisps was the height of generosity. What made it worse was that some of the workers even seemed to agree!”

The Violet Exploit – “Lay Down”

Country: US

Genre: Indie Rock

From the Artist: “Lay Down is about a person in your life that takes advantage of your feelings through self-victimizing and guilt trips. Think “fair weather” friends or manipulators. The opening line of the song “Pity, all that’s left is your bones, the emptiness. I wouldn’t fault you.” Paints a cryptic picture of the feelings associated with what exactly one feels in a relationship like this. “Lay Down” is our second single and is our closer for our many live shows. We think it’s a great summer song especially the way the guitars and bass interact with the vocal melodies. It’s has raw energy that bleeds through the track and a hard to forget chorus, “The ladder, you’re bleeding, I don’t believe it. The worlds not your friend.”

West Ferry – “Add ‘Em Up”

Country: US

Genre: Indie Rock

From the Artist: “This song is off of our upcoming EP “Out of Reach” coming out on 7/29. This one is a more of a straightforward rock song than the others but is one of our favs to play.”

Spill, Dance, Refine – “Wide Awake”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

From the Artist: “The song is basically about that minute the party ends and the drugs have run out. The part you don’t hear about as often.”

The Store – “The Sun Never Sets”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

From the Artist: “This is the first song off our EP. It’s a straight to the point, fast and punchy punk-rock song.”

Emiliano Ortiz – “Sober”

Country: US

Genre: Indie Rock

From the Artist: “‘Sober’ is about the ups and downs of drinking, all within an on and off again toxic relationship. Music production nods to The Strokes, featuring a solo paying respects to Brian May. “

Ilan Rubin – “Living in the Underworld”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

From the Artist: “Living in the Underworld is a song that explores life at past and present, and how the two seem to conflict. At its core, it’s about putting the inner voice that may be holding you back in its place. We all have a memory of when life seemed simpler, and this is about finding a way to move forward with the same feeling of hope we once had. The verses have an eerie, haunting quality — marked by a taunting beat, distorted bass and an ethereal guitar sound — but the choruses are big and uplifting.”

Against The Sun – “Undone”

Country: US

Genre: Hard Rock

From the Artist: “‘Undone’ is the siren song of the slow steady death of a long-term relationship. It captures the sorrow of losing a love that you poured years of your life into, while keeping the frustrations that drove you apart front and center. With the mixing and mastering of grammy award winning producer Shawn Sullivan, ‘Undone’ Combines the tenderness and vulnerability of Emo with the aggression of Metalcore.”

Red Medicine – “The River”

Country: US

Genre: Garage Rock

From the Artist:  “Inspired by the story of “Siddhartha” from Hermann Hesse, “The River” takes its name from the metaphor contained within the novel and explores the path required to travel from petty desire to wisdom. A gritty thrill ride of dirty guitars and all out catharsis, the song sonically captures the pain and adventure of changing for the better. The energy and aggression contained within the track, combined with its retro guitar-centric feel make “The River” perfect for any dirty rock playlist.”

Phantomelo – “Shark Attack”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

From the Artist: “This song was originally written as a jab against social media influencers who are promoting products not bc the products themselves are any good, but because there is an exchange between the company and the influencer where the influencer takes some sort of payment while the company gets their product advertised to an attentive and intimate audience. In many cases these are items the influencer themselves would never use, but the cash or gifts is hard to say no to.”

Taxes – “Foie Gras & Sancerre”

Country: US

Genre: Indie Rock

From the Artist: “I suppose this song is an examination of two possible paths. One is a road littered with critical and commercial success, with chart topping singles and world tours; a mighty Peregrine Falcon of Rock taking the world in its claws and devouring it. The other, the course I charted, is littered with dead pigeons and happy accidents. I am finally old enough and tired enough to actually stop, take in the scenery, savor the small victories, bend down to collect a few feathers and then, finally, add them to my cap. Somehow, that’s enough.”

kicklighter – “All I Had”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

From the Artist: “This song, All I Had, produced by Aaron Gillespie of Underoath/The Almost is our debut single scheduled for release on July 29th this month. It’s a song about waiting for someone you care about while they’re going through a rough patch, but still being there for them. This track means a lot to us and is the first single from our record we made with Aaron. The record also features background vocals and lead guitar from Aaron as well. “

The Halophones – “Tommy”

Country: Finland

Genre: Indie Rock

From the Artist: “Tommy is the first song we started working on as a group so it starts the EP off. It was composed in the bathroom on a nylon-stringed guitar and shares a story about a certain troubled little boy from the singer’s childhood that in a way, never grew up.”
