Ahead of their new album, Disenchanted (out on May 17th), Toronto’s punked-up rock n’ roll quartet The Anti-Queens have recently released a couple of new singles; “Doomed Again” followed by “Crusade”. We caught up with the band to chat about the new music, the weirdest interview question they’ve been asked, and what powers their superhero alter egos would possess.
From The Strait: Tell us about the recent single, “Doomed Again”.
The Anti-Queens: The first single off our sophomore LP Disenchanted. It’s about all the things that go wrong and the uncertainty of being in a band- but always having fun.
From The Strait: What can fans expect from the upcoming album, Disenchanted?
The Anti-Queens: A lot of fun punk rock anthems, tasty riffs, and harmonies for days. It’s an Anti-Queens album, so you know there will be some sass on it too.
From The Strait: What are your favourite – and least favourite – things about being musicians?
The Anti-Queens: We love travelling and playing with amazing bands, writing and performing our music. We don’t love 9 hour drives at 7 am on show days haha.
From The Strait: What’s the weirdest question you’ve ever been asked in an interview?
The Anti-Queens: “What song do you want played at your funeral?”
From The Strait: Are there any bands or artists that you can’t get enough of right now?
The Anti-Queens: CROSS DOG!!!! They’ve been friends of ours for years, and now they’re on the same label as us and getting ready to release their new album shortly after ours!
From The Strait: If The Anti-Queens were superheroes, what would their names and superpowers be?
The Anti-Queens:
Valerie: Captain Shred – can dismantle entire armies with her tasty riffs
Emily: Siren Song – will bring you to your knees and explode your heart and brain with one melody
Michael: The Periwinkle Prince – can take a single photo of you and trap you forever (kinda like the bad guys from Superman who were trapped in the floating mirror in space)
