Bad Athlete – “Black Widow”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
From The Artist: “Black Widow is the tale of a powerful sorceress, woven over a driving rhythm section and guitars that bring to mind a 70s hard rock sound”
Ben Wayne – “Priorities”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
From The Artist: “Sometimes I write songs by recording a rough track of a musical idea and mumbling to it before I have actual words. I was mumbling to this idea one day and my fiance over heard it, loved it and asked what it was, but it wasn’t anything yet. So, I wrote words to it. The chorus is self-explanatory and I think relatable for a lot of people. It’s when you’ve got your “priorities” and maybe they’re not all in order, but you’re trying to survive and that’s how you know how to do it. I love how it came together with the band, especially with that guitar solo. Ben Blujus (guitar) just tore it apart.”
DKANDLE – “Trans-Spirited”
Country: Italy
Genre: Alt Rock
From The Artist: “Trans-Spirited is the track chosen to promote my debut album Mondano, out on September 23. Mondano is an ode to worldliness. Trans-Spirited summons Apollo and Dionysus to celebrate spirituality through Mondano living.”
Coleman Rigg – “Mine”
Country: US
Genre: Indie Rock
From The Artist: “Singer/songwriter Coleman Rigg challenged the band to refine their sound away from their rowdy, motor-oil-infused beginnings, and delve further into the ever-palatable, cleaner sounds of late 2000s/early 2010s alternative rock (Arctic Monkeys & Kings of Leon) while remaining true their gravelly, soaring hooks & choruses that solidified the bands identity. The song theme is also a new pivot for the band, as Rigg looks inward at himself amid a chaotic relationship. Rigg’s lyrics remain pointed but find balance with vivid imagery and a good bit of vulnerability. Instead of leaning into the obvious alt-rock relationship cliches about desire and mystery, Rigg pulls back and opens himself up to answer on the other end that he may or may not get.”
Calling Cadence – “Just The Way It Goes” (Acoustic)
Country: US
Genre: Americana
From The Artist: “An ode to ghosting victims of the 21st century dating scene, “Just The Way It Goes” cheekily captures the spirit of getting back at the love interest who wronged you, while showcasing Calling Cadence’s stunning acoustic arrangements. Equally inspired by the 1960s/70s Laurel Canyon scene and classic Motown, “Just The Way It Goes” shows that love lost can still be expressed in bright, upbeat, and momentum pushing terms. “So now I’m moving through these clouds of gold / Cause you can’t hold me anymore down below / Just let go,” sings Calling Cadence’s Oscar Bugarin, before launching into inspired vocal harmonies with fellow member Rae Cole. ”
Patient Lounge – “Hard Truth”
Country: Australia
Genre: Alt Rock
From The Artist: “90’s inspired alt rock with some fun prog intricacies (check the second verse for a very cool 7/8 bass+drums vibe). The track is a letter to a younger you, who was obsessed with their ambition, begging them not to make the same mistakes you did.”
Polished Pockets – “Nimbin Wizard”
Country: Australia
Genre: Alt Rock
From The Artist: “Nimbin Wizard tells the tale of the time when our drummer Lachie went to Nimbin, NSW and had an unexpectedly difficult time finding their signature green produce. The hilarious story was first told to us during an afternoon jam session. Shortly thereafter, we jammed on some ideas that came to be the song, which promptly inspired our singer Jarvis to pen lyrics based on Lachie’s story.”
I’ve Tried Sleeping – “Hard Hitting Rock”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
From The Artist: “Mother channels Tipper Gore and takes my copy of The Wall. Then fingers get pointed at the shitty stewards of the rock music industry responsible for its implosion. It’s time to TURN IT UP LOUD. 3rd song of the album to drop on 11/13/22. “
Sweet Home – “Dream”
Country: US
Genre: Shoegaze
From The Artist: Dream is largely about unfortunate and uncontrollable circumstances causing you lose something important and special to you. “Time and place” can lead to a lot of negative outcomes, and this song was me trying to cope with that.
Steakhouse – “Tantrum!”
Country: US
Genre: Post-Punk
From The Artist: “San Francisco post-punk outfit Steakhouse know how to make use of what’s been set in stone, particularly when it comes to what works musically. Take Tantrum!, the opening track to their upcoming full-length for example: a track that employs a certain age-old country familiarity, with a slight twist. On top of the primordial, sinister air of the instrumentals, with a sticking Cramps-eque guitar, Tantrum! is your classic—albeit drastic—tale of a man scorned by the murderous, “horror double feature” of a woman he loves, though he wouldn’t have her be any other way.”
Cabin Fever – “M.I.A.”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
From The Artist: “Cabin Fever’s first single is here! M.I.A written by all of the band members tackles a theme of wanting to know if a relationship is headed down the right path, or if one person is just going to end up hurt.”
Swiss Banks – “Getaway”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
From The Artist: “The opening guitar motif, a subconscious throw away noodle in any given band rehearsal, made way for Swiss Banks’ second single, Getaway. Set to a dark-driving beat, with a heavy dose of the group’s post-punk roots from bands like Interpol and Souixsie and the Banshees, the singer peruses the realization of their own disappointment to the one they love most. The opening line croons, “I love you in that dress. I haven’t said it yet. I probably will forget.” The point here is to recognize and face your shortcomings, and if theirs any power in the confession, perhaps a better nature will yet prevail.”
The Breaks Inc. – “On Borrowed Time”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
From The Artist: “Fun little ditty about a real-life breakup. Inspired by true events. Yes, his name really was Doyle. No, I’m not making that up.”
Dancing With Ghosts – “The Audacity”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
From The Artist: “The Audacity is a Pop-Punk/Alt Rock anthem that comes at you from the word go. This song is about how sometimes you come across people who do everything they can to dismantle what you have. They try to come for your name, your character, and those things you love the most. These people have The Audacity. Enough is enough.”
Casablanca – “I Wish I Was Born Straight”
Country: UK
Genre: Alt Rock
From The Artist: “‘This song is not a homophobic manifesto or a rant about the fact that being gay isn’t right. I’m out and proud. Instead, it’s about realising that there’s little to no room for monogamy in the gay community. It’s about that desperate and provocative thought that many gay men, like me, have had once in their life: ‘I Wish I Was Born Straight’. As gay men, are we creating a new restrictive format that must apply to everyone? This song is all about questions and opening a dialogue.’
