Candy Cigarettes – “Be Alright”

Country: US

Genre: Indie Rock

Words From the Artist: Candy Cigarettes is the indie rock project of multi-instrumentalist Lane Mueller. Reminiscent of Boards of Canada’s nostalgia, Elliott Smith’s emotional songwriting, Kid A’s atmospheric rock, and glistening 90s shoegaze, Mueller creates rock that is musically complex without being over thought – evoking a nostalgic that’s as emotive as it is energizing.

APACALDA “Male Gaze”

Country: Canada

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “From its inception, the song “Male Gaze” was fueled by a passionate resentment. As women, a great majority of our existence has been to accommodate or be appealing, appeasing, and submissive to men. APACALDA’s intention with this single is to evoke a deliberate introspection into our own accountability of how we propagate the current “gaze” imposed on femme/women and the emerging ramifications.”

DALE – “Treading Water”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “‘Treading Water’ is ultimately about struggling to find your way in your early-to-mid twenties; about the uncertainty that entails, the self-doubt, and the struggle to not only stay afloat at times, but also know which way to swim.” The coming-of-age alt-rock track was uniquely difficult to write. DALE adds, “I started writing ‘Treading Water’ around this time last year…it’s funny, some songs you write in like 20 minutes, but this one developed slowly over several months. Originally it was about an entirely different concept, but something about that wasn’t sitting right. So I scrapped my initial lyrics and and just started writing about what had been eating at me for the better part of two years. The result was probably the most honest song I’ve ever written.”

Call In Dead – “Song About A Horse”

Country: US

Genre: Screamo

Words From the Artist: “This is the first single off of Call in Dead’s first full length vinyl LP that comes out 10/14. The album title, “Deepest Condolences”, get its name from the breakdown in this song which is not really about a horse. It’s more about overcoming life’s struggles and betrayals and the complexity of life. We opened every set of our summer tour with this song, and it always got a good response.”

KT Laine – “Again”

Country: Canada

Genre: Indie Rock

Words From the Artist: “Feeling restless and uncertain, “Again” was written when her partner at the time had just left for tour and Laine began to process the possibilities of ending the relationship. “At times I was grateful for that distance, and other times I really did mind that it was such a long way home. This song is a double edged sword in that way,” the artist elaborates.”

The Stone Foxes – “Help Me Now”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “In the summer of 2020, TSF co-founder and lead vocalist Shannon Koehler, who suffers from congenital heart issues, had to undergo his second open heart surgery (and his 14th heart-related surgery). His old pacemaker wires were wearing out the doctors needed to access the back of his heart, so they had to go through his sternum this time. “Because my issues are congenital, they usually send me to a children’s hospital, where there are lots of stuffed animals and Disney movies playing in waiting rooms,” he says. “When I woke up from my surgery, I saw my fiancée Shana on my left and my Mom (Sharon) on my right. As my eyes kept opening, I started feeling a sharp, knife-like pain in my chest. I looked over at my IV and didn’t see a drip going. I had woken up from open-heart surgery with no pain meds, and it was the most excruciating pain I have ever felt. Shouting, barely able to get oxygen, I started cussing up a storm in Stanford Children’s Hospital. It was a combination of extreme anger and fear of whether I could actually withstand the pain…it’s something I’ll never forget.”

Croptop – “Eunice”

Country: Netherlands

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “Croptop are a three piece post-punk band based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. They are defined by a highly energetic combination of furious guitar, intense yet catchy bass-lines, garage rock ‘n’ roll drums and some in-your-face vocals.”

Mystic Peach – “Death of Me”

Country: UK

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “Elaborating on ‘Death Of Me’, vocalist and guitarist Curtis Gale explains, “Trying to extract my feelings and emotions around ‘Death Of Me’ is hard. There’s been propaganda we’ve had to endure, especially over the last 3 years, that had a massive impact on this – but politics is not the protagonist, it’s the narrator.”

Patrick R. Smith – “All I Can Traverse”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “This song is part of a 5-song concept EP entitled Death Addiction which features a narrative throughout all 5 songs.”

Midwave Breaks – “In the Face of All We Know”

Country: New Zealand

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “An upbeat Rock track that puts a hopeful twist on the notion that life isn’t just black and white, there’s always an ‘other’ side to any story, and that ultimately if we can respect each other’s differences, maybe we could all just get along.”

OX – “Wide Open”

Country: Germany

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “”Wide Open” is about the mourning of past times and how people try to excape into their personal utopias to feel better and escape reality at least for a while. The corresponding music video was shot in a cinema and picks up the melancholy of the song very appropriately – also because the cinema itself stands exactly for such a temporary escape from reality into other worlds.”

Atomic Bronco – “Foolish Games”

Country: US

Genre: Indie Rock

Words From the Artist: “This song has a retro vibe and the lyrical themes seem to be about unrequited love, but if you dig a little deeper you may find that it also works as a warning about greed.”

Jake Wildhorn – “Man on a Wire”

Country: US

Genre: Pop

Words From the Artist: “Song starts out with a lot of energy – catchy chorus and powerful vocals. ”

Trash n Privilege – “Weight”

Country: US

Genre: Punk

Words From the Artist: “This song is about the eldest child in a dysfunctional family.”

Dover Lynn Fox – “Lone Star”

Country: Canada

Genre: Indie Rock

Words From the Artist: “I wrote the lyrics to “Lone Star” one night, during a full moon. I had a story I wanted to tell and these lyrics tied my story of discovery, change and independence all together. In the summer of 2019, I was coming back from a day trip when I saw a black Mustang with Texas plates driving just ahead of me. There was a full moon that night and it cast a ghostly light on the dark highway. That image was stirring and the chorus of the song came in a rush, “Rules fade and I cry and I cry, I hear the wind let the melody go, full moon rise, cold subside, there’s a lone star somewhere driving home.” When I got home I wrote down the lyrics and recorded the melody. “
