Words From the Artist: A “10-32” is a common police dispatcher code for a drowning. The song is about two boys who drown in a river in the speaker’s childhood and who still visit his dreams decades later. –This was the first song the band wrote together, much of it long-distance, including leaving parts on one another’s voice mail. –We chose it to be first on the album because we thought it best introduced the sound of the album—alt rock with shades of roots and folk—as well as that “Omen” is an unabashedly maximalist album, full of elaborate, even extravagant composition, instrumentation, and structuring.

Words From the Artist: A story of abuse and assault turned into a powerful Hard Rock anthem, “It Ain’t Love” is a shock to the genre’s stagnating concepts. From the AC/DC-like verses to the instantly memorable chorus, the track takes the listener on an agonizing journey through all the stages of the cycle of abuse, before achieving atonement in the final chorus after the heart-wrenching guitar solo. While “It Ain’t Love” is an excruciatingly heavy and overwhelming piece to perform, it’s our favorite song to this day despite the pain surrounding it.

Words From the Artist: “As a band that frequently draws on music from the ’60s and into the early 2000’s, MTV 2095 was our first attempt to write a song that addresses the future. The song really started as a joke. We had MTV 2. Then we wrote MTV 3. The next logical step was to write MTV 2095.” :The song has fun with the fact that we only envision the future by using landmarks of the past, referencing Greek sirens, the archetypal journey of leaving home, the dated act of letter-writing, and referencing “digital Japan,” as a stand-in for an exotic future destination. The title itself is a reference to “Yours Truly 2095″, a 1981 (the year MTV started) song by Electric Light Orchestra, that attempts to do the same. Breaking away from our standard arrangement, we also incorporated auto-tune and synth into MTV 2095, which are new to us but have been staples for anyone trying to sound futuristic since before the internet was commonplace. Don’t worry, the humor is never lost on us.”

Finally, the opportunity came in the form of Fires. He is extraordinary and came at the song from somewhere I don’t think I would or could have.”
