Australian rockers The Lazys have been making their name known worldwide, though it was on Canadian soil where they got their first big break. They’re continuing their world domination with brand new music – they recently released their latest single, “Rattle Them Bones”, and we caught up with The Lazys to chat about the song, how they got started, and what a Lazys-curated festival would look like.
From The Strait: Tell us about the new single, “Rattle Them Bones”.
The Lazys: Our new single “Rattle Them Bones” was written during the pandemic and was born out of frustration while navigating our way back to what we do best, rocking the stages! It was co-written with our mate Ian D’sa from Billy Talent. The writing process involved many online zoom sessions between Canada, USA and Australia. The riff came first and the song was written around it. We are super proud of the result.
From The Strait: How did the band get its start?
The Lazys: A long, long time ago the band formed on the Central Coast, New South Wales, Australia in 2006 our home town. We were a band for eight years playing pubs and clubs most nights to mostly nobody, rehearsing a few nights a week in a garage and writing songs. Then In 2014 we decided to take a gamble and throw all our hard work in and head to Canadian Music Week in Toronto. It was there after three shows in twenty four hours that we got signed by our agent Ralph James (Nickelback, Billy Talent) and met Ian D’sa of Billy Talent. The rest is history.
From The Strait: You’ve played some impressive shows and venues – what has been your favourite venue to play? (And what in your opinion, makes a venue great?)
The Lazys: We’re very thankful to have played the venues we have so far. From awesome little packed clubs to major outdoor festivals around the world. There’s been so many but to name a few I think it’d be Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Bloodstock, Motocultor. Frankie’s Pizza, The Horseshoe Tavern, Oshawa music hall. Tattersalls Penrith! What makes a good venue is the crowd, the staff, the vibe, the atmosphere and of course the sound and lighting.
From The Strait: If you were curating a festival (with you headlining, of course), who would you want on the bill and what would it be called?
The Lazys: Hmm… Tough question! Lets call it LAZY FEST! We’d have Silverchair, Foo Fighters, AC/DC, Billy Talent, Cold Chisel and The Beatles of course! There would definitely be many more.
