Canadian singer-songwriter Craig Cardiff just released his latest single, “Yellowknife” from the upcoming album All This Time Running. We caught up with Craig to learn more about the single, his musical guilty pleasures, and what’s next for him.
From The Strait: Tell us about your new single, “Yellowknife”. What inspired the song?
Craig Cardiff: The place and the people – it’s not easy to get to and I find everyone I meet there is there by intention or greater design. The northern lights. The history – so much good and bad and curious history wrapped together. Explorers – I remember taking a flight in a ww1 dc bomber and the pilot said I could steer it from the middle because the whole thing ran off pulleys / cables.
FTS: If you could tour alongside any two bands, any genre, who would you choose and why?
Craig Cardiff: I would love to tour with billy brag and REM if they’d have me
FTS: Do you have any musical guilty pleasures? (Not that we actually believe in guilty pleasures, but for the sake of a Q&A!)
Craig Cardiff: I listen to a lot of Oscar Peterson – more than I should admit
FTS: What’s next for you?
Craig Cardiff: New album in spring 2021. Lots of singles. Live-streaming geogated world tour. Working with schools to create music with students and launch them on my new label ‘quarantine collaboration’ and co-writing.
