Trash Pals

Indie duo Trash Pals have a long history together – Conor Rayne (vocals, drums, bass, songwriting) and Gabe Schnider (vocals, guitars, keyboards, songwriting) first met at jazz camp when they were 13, studied in New York Together, and played in various music projects until 2020 when they had to part ways; Conor moved to LA and Gabe moved to Hawaii. But despite the distance, they stayed in constant contact, writing songs together to process their personal experiences. They’ve just released a new 4-song EP called Love Potion – a compilation of music that allowed the duo to work through pain and find healthy ways of letting go.

“Love Object is a collection of songs born from grief during a time when the light was dim and the way out seemed difficult,” says the band of the new EP. “Since then, we’ve embraced healthier ways of coping and growth but these melodies remain a testament to our journey through pain and our belief that no matter how dark the night, the sun will rise again. We hope this EP provides listeners with solace, comfort, and a place to feel all the difficulties of adjusting to change.

Love Object kicks off on a high note, with “Everything You Do”- a perfect blend of alt pop and indie rock, plus a catchy melody that is sure to draw the listener right in. While the song is about romantic attachment and fixation on an old love, there’s a feeling of positivity to the track. It’s the kind of song that deserves to be played at high volume on repeat; addictive and nuanced.

Next up, “Specter” is a bit grungier and more subdued than “Everything You Do”, reminiscent of a 90s alt style that is sorely lacking in the current music scene. The song is about “an imagined romantic ideal rooted in delusion; someone who exists to fill the voids in one’s own life that can only be addressed through commitment to the self.”  Groovy verses and a bright chorus balance the sound out, punctuating the song’s poignant meaning.

“What I Want” brings the energy up a bit with a catchy singalong chorus, while “Sunrise” finishes the album with more of a mellow, melancholy feel. Overall, the EP seamlessly mixes indie rock, alt pop, grunge and catchy garage rock to create a compelling and nostalgic sound that captures an array of emotions.
