Hailing from Paris, France, Bank Myna is a band that creates music where dark post-rock, drone, sonic experiments and doom-like incursions mingle. A unique and introspective sound without boundaries, the songs are both loud and intense, while at other times minimalist and profound. Bank Myna has just released a new album entitled EIMURIA, featuring a heavier sound than previous releases, combining light and dark while staying in step with their post-metal roots.

With this album, we’ve tried to express the tension between what we’ve been and what we’re becoming, the raw emotion that simmers in silence, the quiet burn before everything erupts,” the band says of EIMURIA. “It’s about what remains, and what might still ignite.

Starting with a wall of fuzz, subdued and moody vocals from Maud Harribey break through to a build-up of heavy guitars in “No Ocean of Thoughts”. The song ends in a way that leaves listeners with the feeling of needing more, undoubtedly ready to dive into the next song. The second track, “The Shadowed Body,” kicks off on a quiet note, with the vocal and low-end creating an engaging atmosphere as the sound grows, weaving a story along with it. This song is an epic, immersive as it is well-executed with the balance of musical builds and slow burns.

“The Other Faceless Me” begins with a musical swell, mellow at first with a beautiful simplicity. The song grows, as does the palpable vocal emotion. By the end, the guitar riffs have changed the direction of the song completely – a sound that feels less like pain and struggle, and more like newfound strength. With an almost classic rock style, between the punctuated guitars and stellar vocals, “Burn All The Edges” feels like a rock anthem. The riffs are a stand out throughout this song, from the huge moments to the more pared down riffs. The wall of sound near the end is perfectly offset by the gorgeous and powerful vocals. EIMURIA finishes off with the fifth track, “L’Implorante”. A  story unto itself, it features a range of emotions and styles, ending the album on a flawless note that exemplifies the Bank Myna sound.

This is not your average album listening experience, especially with some songs exceeding 12 and 13 minutes long. But that is a large part of what makes it an immersive collection of music, and not just a passive listen. With an overall atmospheric sound that is simultaneously intense and ominous yet light and hopeful, Bank Myna’s music is something different than we’ve ever featured here on FTS, and EIMURIA is a testament to original, complex, and captivating music.
