No Waves – “Missing All”
Country: Canada
Genre: Indie Rock
Words From the Artist/PR: No Waves drop their pensive and angsty EP Postcard, made up of songs written years ago with the intent of recording them before the pandemic. Since then, they have reworked them to resemble the way we play now and to sound like the energy of their shows. “Missing All” came about in their senior years of high school as they faced uncertainty about the future. The featured track is about closing chapters as well as accepting change, leaving your comfort zone and being whoever you want.

Virgin Mary Disco – “For Free”
Country: Australia
Genre: Indie Rock
Words From the Artist/PR: “The song is about the experience of employment in the modern workplace and capitalism. The lyrics for ‘For Free’ came from my own mishearing of the song ‘Making Flippy Floppy’ by Talking Heads. When Byrne sings ‘Business and pleasure, lie right to your face’, I always heard ‘Business IS pleasure’, a contradiction I could identify with, and the lyrics grew from there. Many companies today present themselves as supportive, community environments (some may even be genuine in their pursuit), but at the end of the day they continue to thrive on a system based on the extraction of cheap resources and cheap labour, leaving us to pay the true cost of their greed.”

Femegades – “Toolish”
Country: UK
Genre: Rock
Words From the Artist/PR: Latest single Toolish, is another illustration of Femegades willingness to approach challenging subject matter without fear or favour. It is a song that is dedicated to anyone who has been unable to combat unwanted attention from that guy. Toolish also aims to serve as a wake up call to any individual expressing opinions such as “why didn’t she just fight back?”

Avalon Stone – “Forget You”
Country: Canada
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist/PR: Kevin Dietz, a JUNO Award-winning producer, and co writer Taylor Leith of Sierra Pilot, helped Stone shape the single into a heartfelt anthem. Although “Forget You” draws from past breakups, it has become an unintentional soundtrack to Avalon’s current life changes. Addressing misconceptions, Avalon states, “The headlines that say ‘Forget You’ is about my recent breakup couldn’t be further from the truth—it was written almost a year ago.” However, she teases some of her upcoming music will feature deep lyrics that explore her emotional growth over the past year. With plans to release more music in the lead-up to her much-anticipated album Chained, fans can anticipate a series of singles that showcase Avalon’s evocative storytelling, powerful vocals, and experiences that drive her advocacy for mental health.

Sugarstone – “Hostile”
Country: UK
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist/PR: Clash-backed Manchester Synth-Punk’s Sugarstone have today released their new EP ‘Terrible Tendencies’. Lead single ‘Tender Hook’ was named BBC Introducing ‘Track of the Week’ and BBC 6 Music’s Finest Hour ‘Tune of the Week’. ‘Terrible Tendencies’ acts as the perfect indication of their sonic trajectory, audibly and aesthetically tapping into the industrial goth and dance sounds of the 80s, a hugely influential era for the band. If Ridley Scott made Blade Runner today, you can bet he’d hire Sugarstone to score his night club scenes.

The Zangwills – “Walking on a Wire”
Country: UK
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist/PR: The track is raw and energetic, produced by legendary American Producer, Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Regina Spektor, The Libertines). Frontman, Jake Vickers says, ‘working with Gordon for this song was too cool’. Some of the music Gordon has worked on has directly influenced the band’s lives and music tastes as well as feeding into their own music, especially with tracks like this one. The band have cited The Strokes among their varied influences since they first became a band so having Gordon not only like their music, but actually support it and want to get involved in their journey has been a brilliant experience. The lyrics talk of uneasy feelings and strange, confusing emotions, and also of the salvation of love. Lines such as, ‘balancing my loose head on my neck, as if I’m ordinary’ were written during a writing exercise in which Jake described pictures in books from the perspective of the 1st person.

Ernest Aines – “Pixels”
Country: Australia
Genre: Prog Rock
Words From the Artist/PR: “Pixels” is the first track from the debut album “Spiral Bound”. Described by SBS Studios (Canada) as having ” incredible melody & hooks that’ll instantly draw you in” , it is a mesmerizing alt rock gem that seamlessly blends rock and pop, with a touch of psychedelic progressive elements. Its harmonious melodies and ambient vibes create a chill, romantic calm that instantly captivates. The lush arrangements and soulful vocals set the stage for a beautiful musical journey as the song delves into the anxieties of our digital age, exploring the anticipation and power that messages hold over our emotions. Ernest Aines’ soulful vocals add depth and emotion, especially in the soaring chorus.
