Housewife – “Fuck Around Phase”
Country: Canada
Genre: Indie Rock
Words From the Artist: “Fuck Around Phase” is the first new music from Housewife this year and introduces her more mature and intentional indie-rock driven sound. Guided by a lush mix of distorted guitar riffs and pop-informed melodies, “Fuck Around Phase” is a stealthily infectious song. “This song is about learning to enjoy yourself and be present after going through a difficult time,” Brigid says. “I want to embrace being messy and not take things too seriously!”

SickRichard – “Chickens”
Country: UK
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: Chickens is a high-energy dance beat-inspired rock and roll track. The gritty vocals sit above a core of driving guitars, loops, synths and a melodic bass line that holds things together with the raw groove-based drum line. The track takes the listener on a dark and moody journey of lament through a series of transitions, dynamic builds and layered sounds that keep the listener guessing from the first intro swell to the final dissipating tingle of arpeggiated synths.

The Ghost Party – “Severed Hands”
Country: US
Genre: Garage Rock
Words From the Artist: “This is a song I wrote based on a recurring dream. I got to indulge my 60’s psych sensibilities a bit…and I recorded it with the guy who produces Khruangbin…so that’s rad!”

Light Mirrors – “Am I What You’re Looking For?”
Country: US
Genre: Indie Rock
Words From the Artist: Am I What You’re Looking For?” by Light in Mirrors is an emotionally charged and introspective anthem that delves into the complexities of relationships and new love. The song starts with a pulsating kick drum heartbeat and haunting vocals that immediately draw the listener in, representing the inner turmoil and self-doubt that often accompany new relationships and wondering if someone has feelings for you. The song then shifts into a catchy, singable hook that is driven by guitar hits, making it easy for the listener to connect with the flirtatious and upbeat lyrics. The bridge section slows down time into a psychedelic, half-time daydream that evokes a sense of introspection and contemplation, the melody and beats entice you to lose yourself in the moment, and when you least expect it, the song explodes into a driving rock section that showcases the band’s versatility and raw energy, leaving you wanting more.

Cleo Handler – “problem”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: “”Gold” is about what is gained when everything is lost – but hopefully, it’s also kind of funny. It was born of necessity, in an extremely difficult moment in my life. When my (musician) partner of 12 years broke up with me out of the blue on a single phone call, writing was the only thing that kept me afloat. It became a compulsion and I held on for dear life, singing and strumming, even when my voice cracked and my fingers bled.”

Cam Kahin – “Try Again”
Country: Canada
Genre: Indie Pop
Words From the Artist: When I was making this EP, I was going through massive amounts of change. I wanted to make a body of work that reflected that change by stepping out of my comfort zone sonically and writing honestly about the side effects of getting older. When I’ve been at my lowest, I’ve looked to artists who write honestly and I hope to have that effect on my fans and listeners. My wish is for people to find comfort in these songs. For the best listening experience, smoke some weed with your friends and listen to it in a 2006 Nissan Altima.

girlhouse – “worth it”
Country: US
Genre: Indie Rock
Words From the Artist: “I always knew that I could be worthy of love but I had a toxic idea of what loving meant. I’d “fallen in love” with someone who kept telling me I wasn’t enough and yet kept me around. They had so much control over me that even after they weren’t in my life, I still shaped my entire life around proving to them that I could be loved. This was my life up until an interaction after a show in New York that left me completely disenchanted. I don’t even recognize who I was when I was “in love” with them. This song is about that moment and embodies putting words to a situation that I still don’t fully don’t understand yet.”

Yo Kinky – “Video Store”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: “Video Store is narrated by the Type-A voice in my head giving me a tough love pep-talk in order to convince me not to give up on something that is difficult to obtain – yet like all special feats, is worth it. The verses were inspired by my observation of other artists who get fearful when they put themselves out there and feel judged by others. My family is made up of show business types, so growing up the advice they gave my generation, for better or for worse, was that any publicity is good publicity; so I’ve never really been scared of people not liking me. I mention some of the jobs I’ve had like working at a movie theatre, a clothing store, a rehearsal studio, among others. The title of the EP is included here because although my looks are of the generic type, my essence is the antithesis of the girl next door. So, when I pursued acting as a youth, like many angelinos, I would get typecast as something to the effect of an Erotic Creature. Video Store is a bit of a review of things passed because I find it important to survey oneself on a regular basis to ensure you’re on the right path. The chorus of the song is an homage to the personal progress adage of pulling your boots up by the straps, which translates for me to not being discouraged by failures, but instead looking at how far you’ve come, and reminding yourself to not give up hope on whatever it is you aspire to be. And, if what you aspire to be must be undertaken entirely alone, so be it. “

Lauren Lakis – “Take My Hand”
Country: US
Genre: Shoegaze
Words From the Artist: The single is about “forgetting what you thought you knew, letting go, bravely opening your mind to something radically different,” proclaims the songwriter, She further asks, “what if you were wrong? Are you able to admit it? Can you shift with the ever-changing landscape of reality, or are you stuck in your ways? I found myself stepping into the unknown in many ways the past few years, forced to entertain the notion that maybe I didn’t know everything, and in that I found freedom.”
