Ways In Waves – “Ovum Nova”
Country: Canada
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist/PR: “Oftentimes, when I’ve had to confront grief in my life, I’ve found that it’s tough to put your finger on how it’s going to manifest, when it’s going to show its face, and how to deal with it,” says Brian Raine. “To have coherent words expressing this just seemed so antithetical to the ethos of this song. And so I made ‘Ovum Nova’ into an incoherent expression of grief. The lyrics speak about futures that could have been, the futile process of seeking solace and not finding it, all within the mood of being trapped at a house party in a thunderstorm. Counter-intuitively, the song is very energetic, and one of the more punk influenced things I’ve written, which serves as a sort of facade for these very sad lyrics to hide behind.”

The Unbranded – “Novacaine”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist/PR: “If you’ve ever wondered what Dinosaur Jr would sound like with a bigger and louder sonic stature, find the answer in the high-octane riotous love letter to the alt-90s, penned through The Unbranded’s hit single Novacaine. Once you let the impaled-with pop-punk-hooks earworm in, don’t expect it to depart any time soon. As the kinetically infectious chord progressions subjugate your rhythmic pulses into submission, the augmented-with-charisma vocal lines draw you further into the centre of the frenetic epitome of rebellion which spits in the face of anyone who wants to shunt people who don’t fit the mould of banality to the sidelines.”

FISHLORD – “BROKEN”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist/PR: “I believe every educator should be concerned with the fates of young people everywhere, and at that moment, I felt dismayed and helpless at how best to support them. In bringing the song together, I was able to recruit my dear friend, Goodie, for a verse. I’ve always respected the thoughtfulness and care with which they move through the world, and I knew I could count on them for a beautiful and meaningful contribution. Releasing it almost 6 months later, my heart goes out to the young people who are still suffering, and all those educators and students who are trying to advocate for them.”

Griffen Handshake – “Kicking Rocks”
Country: US
Genre: Rock
Words From the Artist/PR: “A Polaroid – a snapshot in time. Kicking Rocks illustrates the battle between two ways of reflecting on our past. Do we embrace the past and live with no regrets? Or do we block out memories and try to live solely in the present? The verses weave the listener through specific snapshots that we experienced in 2023. No matter how happy the memories are, our minds naturally taint them. Kicking Rocks may not be the most flashy song, but it is our emotional anthem. We hope to connect with Spotify playlist curators, radio stations, and journalists to broadcast the story of our song to a worldwide audience.”
