The Dionysus Effect – “Girl Like A Bomb”
Country: US
Genre: Rock
Words From the Artist: “Girl Like A Bomb” – “was inspired by the novel Girl Like a Bomb. I loved the idea of someone finding self-actualization through hooking up with someone, and I had to write a song about that experience. There is something decadent but also romantic about someone becoming their best self after a hookup,” confides frontman Christoph.

The Areola Treat – “Judgement Day”
Country: Malta
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: A garage rock justice anthem. Distorted, crunch guitars create an indie melody and powerful female vocals. Our subject is a lone wolf and is facing judgement, however is on trial for a crime she did not commit and is being persecuted by the perpetrators of the crime themselves, as well as dozens of other crimes.

Patty PerShayla & the Mayhaps – “Spill”
Country: US
Genre: Garage Rock
Words From the Artist: “Spill” is the first single off our upcoming EP, Perpetual Motion Machine (EP release date August 1st). “Spill” is a very in-your-face blues-rock song about misogyny in the music industry (and beyond). I’ve had many experiences of being harassed at merch table meet-and-greets or being dismissed by sound engineers at gigs and I put all that fury into this song. I think of this one as my internal monologue being screamed in someone’s face. The rest of the EP touches on similar topics, mainly life on the road in its excitement and exhaustion, and different scenes in my touring history where I’ve experienced sexism and underhanded deals.

TANDM – “Sirens”
Country: Canada
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: “I have always tried to tell a lesson or a story in our music,” says Maxine. “With our first two EPs, the majority of our songs were about teenagehood, with many of the themes touching on negative experiences of growing up. With this upcoming EP Sirens, the music is much more about the transition, post teenage angst. The upcoming songs are about the progress and the ‘moving on’ of past troubles, and how we overcame them. Consider it a sequel to our previous chapter.”

Candid Faces – “Coming Home”
Country: UK
Genre: Post-Punk
Words From the Artist: “It may seem like a fun jokey track that pokes fun at bigots and abusers but for our guitarist it was a healing process and a way for them to write about difficult experiences from their childhood, even if it was just an ambiguous four lines”.

America Jayne – “Life of the Party”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From PR: Ahead of the release of his forthcoming sophomore EP, Shove It (due August 25), Brooklyn-based alt-rocker America Jayne shares a brand-new single entitled “Life Of The Party,” alongside an accompanying music video directed by Nicole Rinaldi. “Life Of The Party” is an exploration into alcohol abuse. The song sees the narrator striving to be the ‘life of the party,’ even if, in an attempt to do so, they are destroying themselves. The song looks at the generation effect of alcohol abuse (“Found the bottles on Roy’s backseat. Broke Mom’s heart but took the pressure off me. Guess it runs in the genes”) as well as the destructive impact alcohol has on the narrator’s sense of self (“If I have to rely on you, how much of myself will I lose?”).

Alcoves – “Raining in July”
Country: Canada
Genre: Indie Rock
Words From PR: Alcoves is an indie-rock band based in Victoria, BC, Canada. The band’s sound is a seamless blend of pop production reminiscent of The Japanese House and The 1975 with the charm of DIY indie rock. Their carefree, debut single, “Raining In July,” is about enjoying being young; going for a drive, picking up your partner or your friends and just enjoying life, free of worry. Imagine being caught in the embrace of a warm summer rain in the middle of a heat wave – this is the main character moment in the movie of your life.

Jiants – “Real Easy”
Country: Canada
Genre: Indie Rock
Words From PR: “Real Easy” is about learning to be comfortable alone, making time to heal before you attempt to move into a new phase of yourself. Living your true self is extremely difficult and it’s something that usually takes many attempts. This song is for the first morning you wake up after deciding “your new life starts today” for the third time this week and choosing to just keep trying instead of beating yourself up about it.

Pony Girl – “I Believe In Nothing”
Country: Canada
Genre: Shoegaze
Words From the Artist: “Everything is absurd and meaningless, but that’s a positive. ‘I Believe In Nothing’ is a mantra for detachment, for releasing yourself of strong emotions, for taking control of your life. We hear that sense of freedom as careening guitars, synths rising, distortion and all. You can’t help but feel exaltation.”
