Daniel Monte – “Not Coming Back Anymore”

Words From the Artist: “Not Coming Back Anymore is an intense musical experience driven by its unconventional captivating cello intro and its vikings/James Bond style hook, melody and chord progression. Ships Have Sailed – “Edge of an Ocean”
Country: US
Genre: Indie Rock
Words From the Artist: “This song began as a premonition: a love letter to my unborn daughter. As I write this, she is just three weeks old. It’s a big, beautiful, scary world, and I want her to experience the best of it without having to know the worst – but I also know that is impossible. In order to appreciate happiness, we must know sadness. In order to love deeply, we will always have to experience profound loss. In order to cherish the time we have here, and the moments we have with our loved ones, we must recognize it is all temporary. Somehow all those hopes, wishes and dreams, anchored by our bittersweet reality, wove themselves into this song, which presents as a bit unassuming, but may reveal a surprising amount of depth.”

Star Matriarch – “‘Geisha’ Means ‘Open-Minded'”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: “If I’m going to be marginalized, I’m going to take their fucking money,” Carol/Star Matriarch says of her inspiration for this song. As a curvy AuDHD Asian American, some of the most painful stereotypes Star Matriarch faced came in the form of ‘rave reviews’ from hobbyists during her time as an escort. On websites where Johns would titillate each other by recounting their experiences with sex workers, they’d rate the providers on “appearance” and “performance.” Often they’d somehow manage to be racist and fatphobic in the same breath as saying “I had such a good time | I can’t wait til the next time. Musically, “‘Geisha’ Means ‘Open-Minded'” is practically a masterclass on how far “blues-based rock” can go when you venture beyond the typical white American Dude harmonic (and rhythmic!) palette. With her frenetic guitar and iconic Vistalite drums propulsing to a South Asian inflected beat, it somehow feels familiar enough that you forget it’s actually kind of innovative.

Lucky Hit – “Obvious Sucker”
Country: UK
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: “Many of us often romanticise the past. The lyrics focus on a couple and the way in which they spent their time together and how they felt. The memory of that person often stays with us years after. The song itself is not about an ex girlfriend or a summer fling, the song is about a time in our lives personified. The time we spend in our younger years enjoying ourselves and taking risks and reflecting on the fact we spend our latter years romanticising it.”
