KILL, THE ICON! – “Heavy Heart”

Country:UK

Genre: Post-Punk

Words From the Artist: ‘I was faced with racial slurs when I was younger, but nobody has uttered a racial epithet to my face for many years. But, I know the racists who existed in the 90s are still alive and well. They didn’t die out all of a sudden, and neither did their ideas. So, the point of this song is that everyone acknowledges that racists exist. But nobody will ever admit to being racist – so where did they all go? My answer is that they all wear disguises: as politicians, right-wing journalists, and talking heads for shady think-tanks. The brazen racism has retreated into the shadows, and subtle racism has taken over. Heavy Heart is a sardonic call-to-arms for racists: say it loud, say it proud. Come out of the shadows, and into the light once again where we can all see you. Subtle racism is a true scourge of our times, because it’s impossible to point your finger at any given incident. It then makes you doubt your entire worldview, because you’ve not closed that feedback loop. So there’s a generation of PoC living in marginalized communities in the UK who haven’t been called a racial epithet, yet still they can detect rooms where something just feels off. Heavy Heart explores why that may be.’

TIFFY – “Social Sliding”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: I wrote social sliding, when I felt like I had a social position I was sure about then I seemed to lose that. Around the time live music was coming back. I just felt like I wasn’t ‘cool enough’ anymore, I was suddenly starting over, all the work shows, releases I did before carried no social value. BUT social hierarchy is fake, it’s all a perceived notion and means nothing.

Nasty Neighbours – “Caipirinha”

Country: Argentina

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: The track combines the pleasant with the useful: The recipe of the caipirinha, in song form. A party track that’s even bossa nova for a few seconds in the middle and punky at the end.

Strumbrush – “The Dark”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: Last year Strumbrush recorded four songs to experiment in their recording and production processes. The band is currently working on a larger project full of songs they’ve showcased live around Atlanta and the southeast over the past few months. ‘The Dark’ may be the last release out of the batch to hold fans over until said larger project is rolled out later this year. Lead guitarist Jack Pace takes lead vocals on this track, something listeners can anticipate more of going forward.

HTML – “Curtis Granderson”

Couchboy – “Summer”

Words From the Artist: The newest single from COUCHBOY , a nostalgic sounding indie tune with alt folk and pop flourishes, it is about reminiscing on youth, accepting the passage of time as we move through years and seasons.

Mia Mera – “Needs Assessment”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: “If something seems wrong, it is. Trust your instincts, don’t waste a minute of your time.”

Frogs Show Mercy – “Stallion”

Country: US

Genre: Indie Rock

Words From the Artist:  “We made this song on a retreat we took last year to a cabin in North Carolina and we finished it in one night. It’s a novel blend of midwest emo and post-punk and our most danceable song to date. The song is highlighted by the glistening half time bridge that takes the listener from a hip hop nostalgia to a post punk dance frenzy. “

Stephen Chopek – “Gabrielle”

Country: US

Genre: Alt Rock

Words From the Artist: Stephen Chopek releases his latest EP, Songs of Shane, Vol. 2. The five tracks are Stephen’s reinterpretations of classics written by Shane MacGowan, featuring music from his work with The Nips and The Pogues. As a longtime fan of The Pogues, Stephen had been adding their music to his live set throughout the years. The idea of recording the songs came to him after seeing a mural of Shane MacGowan while on tour. The painting became a focal point of the cover art for Chopek’s 2019 release Songs of Shane, Vol. 1. Stephen decided to make Vol. 2 while watching Julien Temple’s 2020 documentary, Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan. When he heard the intro to “Gabrielle” by Shane’s first band The Nips, Stephen felt compelled to record an updated version which led to the new EP, Songs of Shane, Vol. 2.
