CATES – “Another Day That Ends in Wine”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: “Ever worked a soul-sucking, hamster wheel of a day job? Ever numbed yourself with alcohol so completely that the only time you’re sober enough to process the pain is when you’re dreaming at night? Oh… well uh…us neither. Don’t let the tempo, vocal harmonies, and jangly 12 string fool you. “Another Day That Ends in Wine” isn’t a bright December morning in 1996. It’s more like a drizzly evening in 2022.”

Wild Spelks – “Black Spores”
Country: UK
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: “Black Spores encapsulates the best of Wild Spelks in just over three minutes worth of high octane alt.rock. A fiercely overdriven, rallying cry to moving on from unhealthy relationships & habits, the track features a blistering high gain drum beat allied to melodic guitar and lyrics that pull at the heartstrings.”

Uplander – “Drift”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: “Drift is an atmospheric and powerful song about recognizing depression and anxiety and facing it head-on. Sonically pulling influence from acts like Soft Kill, The Cure, Turnover, Warpaint, Wild Nothing, and Deafheaven.”
—
San Salinas – “Hourglass”
Country: US
Genre: Psych Rock
Words From the Artist: “Several years ago I walked away from a band with a major record deal and a hit song on the radio (SomeKindaWonderful – “Reverse”) because I didn’t want to be touring and away while my kids were babies. I spent the next 5 years out of control with drinking; but I sobered up and am making music again. As an independent artist starting from the beginning again in my 30s, there’s a haunting frustration knowing that I blew my chance and now it seems like it could be too late. But as an artist, I can’t stop… I just wish I could “flip the hourglass and start again” and stop lamenting over the past. That’s what “Hourglass” is about.”

Vocabularies – “Alaska”
Country: US
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: “This is a tongue in cheek song about trying to get ahead and rise above the din. A plea to move to Alaska where there’s less (potentially) less bands.”
—
Something Zesty – “She’s Right”
Country: New Zealand
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: “The lyrics came After a phone call with a friend where I felt a-bit called out after she pointed out a lot of my fears, things I was aware of but never really wanted to face or do anything about for whatever excuse or belief. The song is about facing those anxieties whatever it may be and trusting yourself ..cause it’s all gunna be alright no matter what. I get stuck in my head alot so it’s an important reminder to not be afraid of change an to not lose sight of your own adventure out there . “

The Clockwinder – “Thorn”
Country: Ireland
Genre: Alt Rock
Words From the Artist: ” I had all the time in the world during the pandemic and I had zero shit to do. I was already frustrated because I was trying to find people to play with but no one was really taking it seriously. Not the way that I was, anyway. So I just went “fuck it. I’ll do it all by myself”. I had to buy a midi keyboard to get the drums rolling and a ton of plugins to get my acoustic guitar to sound like an electric one. So I wrote, recorder and edit the whole thing. It still ended up sounding a bit like a demo in the end. I’m not one hundred percent happy with the quality but I had a blast doing it all by myself. It’s a completely different process altogether. For the lyrics, I dug a bit into the now dead character Thorn (ᚦ). It was used ages ago but it died out. It is still being used in runes and all that. It’s called Thurisaz as well. It symbolizes chaos and the fear of it. Powerful emotions, etc. It also symbolizes Thor and his hammer. So I played with that a bit in the lyrics. “Ruined”, “rune” and all that. And I wrote about feelings I had about feelings and needs that died or changed during that time of extreme contemplation. Friends that didn’t really fit in this new part of my life anymore. And how our little talks eventually turned into something new and completely meaningless in a sense”
