Fake Shark

Over the past few years, Canadian alt rock band Fake Shark have been consistently creating buzz with their critically successful releases. They’ve just put out their latest single, “Bang Bang Bang,” so we caught up with band member Kevvy to chat about the new music, what he’s listening to, and the band’s favourite venue they’ve played thus far.

From The Strait: Tell us about the new single, “Bang Bang Bang”.

Kevvy: It’s a party song about celebrating the end of a toxic friendship. It’s a new day full of hope when you let someone like that go. The verse lyrics are about over pompous hypocrites.

From The Strait: What’s one band or artist you can’t get enough of right now?

Kevvy: We just covered Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter and it’s just always in my head. I love her lyrics, they’re bratty and cutting and hilarious.

From The Strait: What are your favourite – and least favourite – things about being a musician?

Kevvy: I don’t think of myself as a musician, I think I’m more of an entertainer. I love to perform and I love going on stage before or after other bands in a competitive manner. There’s nothing really to dislike about it because I’m very fortunate I get to do it!

From The Strait: What has been your favourite venue to play? (And what in your opinion, makes a venue great?)

Kevvy: We played the commodore ballroom with Hotel Mira last year and we all sold it out together and that was very special. What makes that venue great is the history and the quality of the venue itself . You look forward to going there.

From The Strait: Describe each band member in one word.

Kevvy:
Alex – classy

Louis -Kreischer

Jake – post-punk

Eric – cutie
