Bristol-based pop-rock 4-piece Chandra has just released a new EP, entitled Lifted. Composed of five of Chandra’s critically acclaimed singles from the past year and a half, Lifted also features a brand new song called “Overload” and an updated version of the previous single, “Lighters to the Sky”. The resulting overall sound is mood-boosting, feel-good music – exactly as the band intended.
“From the very beginning we wanted this EP to be an overwhelmingly positive, feel-good collection of songs that belong together and tell an uplifting story of the human condition,” the band says of their EP. “The concept was simple: create a package of 6 songs that, when listened to at whatever time of day, or whatever your mood, will leave you buzzing, invigorated and ready to take on any challenge. It was especially important to start the EP by smiling and to end the EP by having faith in love.”
Lifted opens on a bright note, with the catchy and positive vibes of “Smile (No Fox Gibbon)”. The perfect way to kick off the album, it sets the mood and tone for the whole EP. Followed by “Pretty,” with its positive message slightly grittier sound, and then previous singles “I’ll Be There,” the EP’s namesake, “Lifted,” and the new version of “Lighters to the Sky,” which all weave the tapestry of the aforementioned “feel-good” sound. The EP ends with “Overload,” which may actually be my personal favourite on Lifted–a mellower and somewhat melancholy atmosphere bursts into bigger energy and a compelling multi-layered sound.
As a whole, the 6-song EP is a testament to the power of positivity. Each song on Lifted incorporates its own message into the collection, but they all have a common thread of believing in yourself, and knowing you can achieve great things. Chandra’s goal was to create an album that was uplifting and invigorating, and they’ve done that in spades–as well as creating catchy, timeless music that will be accessible to a wide variety of music fans.
