Noise Hotel

Ottawa-based indie rockers Noise Hotel have just released their latest single, “The City Fun Forgot”. Taken from the band’s latest album, Poolside Fantasy,  the song is about their journey finding themselves in a new city, with a sound inspired by The Strokes & Arctic Monkeys. We caught up with Noise Hotel to chat about the new music, their songwriting process, and their superhero alter egos.

From The Strait: Tell us about the single, “The City Fun Forgot”.

Noise Hotel: “The City Fun Forgot” is the final single from our new album Poolside Fantasy and is an ode to Ottawa: the city where the band formed.

From The Strait: How would you describe Noise Hotel’s sound to anyone who has never heard the band before?

Noise Hotel: Living Room Rock

From The Strait: Every band has their own way of creating songs – what is your songwriting process like?

Noise Hotel: Usually, Eric writes songs, demos them and brings them to the band with pretty much only arrangement left to do. Eric typically writes 3-5 songs a week, and shows the best of them to the band, and we rehearse them to flesh them out before playing them live or going into the studio.

From The Strait: Which bands or artists are you listening to most right now? Are there any under-the-radar acts that our readers should check out?

Noise Hotel: We all listen to tons of different music, but on rotation for all of us recently has been the latest song from fellow Ottawa band Out By Lucy called “George Costanza”, a fun little rock number about family and Seinfeld.

From The Strait: If you could curate a festival (with you headlining, of course), who would you want on the bill and what would it be called?

Noise Hotel: If we were to set up a festival, we would call it “Noisefest” & would feature other Ottawa/Ontario indie bands.

From The Strait: If each member of Noise Hotel was a superhero, what would be their name and superpower?

Noise Hotel: Eric: Dr. Doctor, telekinesis – Chris: Atomic Space Wizard, shrinking powers (like ant man) – Matt: The Animal, power of teleportation – Brendan: Captain Ontario, invisibility (he’s our drummer, so we barely have pictures of him)
