Alt-rock duo The Blue Stones are back with new music, and still bringing a massive sound for a band with two members. We caught up with vocalist/guitarist Tarek Jafar to chat about the new single “Let It Ride”, what has changed since the success of their debut album, and what’s next for them.

From The Strait: Tell us about the new track, “Let It Ride” – what was the inspiration, and how did it come together?

Tarek Jafar: The song was initially inspired from a weekend in Vegas that we had spent for a close friend’s bachelor party. It was…very, very Vegas. After coming home, and with an upcoming tour in mind, I (Tarek) felt a strong motivation to write a song about having an appetite for adventure but a desire for security at the same time. As musicians, we’re ambitious and adventurous; hard to pin down into a stable, traditional lifestyle. If you want to love us, you have to let us roam.

FTS: How much has changed since finding success with your debut album, Black Holes?

Tarek Jafar: We’re more seasoned musicians. We’ve toured extensively, developed the craft both on and off stage. We’ve also been through some shit too so the available lyrical content is boundless. Overall, we’re at a place where we’ve settled into who we are as a band, and as an identity. We’re unashamed of it, and show that through the new music.

FTS: If you could collaborate with any artist – living or dead, any genres, no rules – who would it be, and why?

Tarek Jafar: Probably Elton John. I think that collaboration would be so weird and wonderful. Also would love to have an unrestricted jam session with BADBADNOTGOOD.

FTS: Describe your sound in 5 words or less.
All that from two guys?

FTS: What’s coming up next for you guys?
The release of a full performance video continuing on from “Let It Ride”. And we’ve been patiently waiting to release a lot of new music that we’re extremely proud of and excited for!
