If you’re into punk, grunge, and alternative, Niagara’s own Colider deserves to be on your radar. In the first feature of our Niagara Spotlight series, we caught up with the band to chat about who they are, the music they make, and what’s coming up next.
From The Strait: First off, introduce yourself – what’s your band name, and where in Niagara are you from?
Colider: We’re Colider, and this is what we do… The lineup is Murray, Greg, and Noah. Most of us are from Welland and thats where we practise. We play most of our shows in the Niagara region and Hamilton.
From The Strait: Tell us a bit about your music, and how you got started.
Colider: Our music is a blend of punk, grunge, alternative, and a little bit of ska. Essentially a 90s mix from early 2000s kids. Noah started writing songs and performing in highschool, then a few years ago met up with Greg and Murr, eventually forming the lineup as it is today.
From The Strait: What are some of your favourite bands and artists?
Colider: We all seem to love bands like Face to Face, Minor Threat, and Descendents, but each of us pull inspiration from different areas as well. Murr is into bands like Protest the Hero and Title Fight, Greg is big into SoCal punk like Social Distortion and Rancid, and Noah’s inspired by bands like Jawbreaker, hHead, and Smashing Pumpkins.
From The Strait: What other Niagara-based acts are you listening to lately?
Colider: Gotta say Gutter Crowns as thats Murr’s other project that he rocks in. Also bands like Eaten By Sharks, Convikt, Second Empire Justice, and the Kaputniks.
From The Strait: If our readers were going to listen to you for the first time, what song should they start with and why?
Colider: This is a hard one because our discography spreads across different genres, but I’d say if you’re more into the punk side of things, take a listen to Tiki (which we put out a video for a bit back, all DIY, all friends of the band, proud of how it turned out), and if you’re more inclined to grunge, give Space Monkey a go.
From The Strait: What’s next for you? Any shows or new music on the way?
Colider: Always new stuff coming, we keep it busy on our end. We just finished recording most of our next album at Boxcar Studios. Stoked with how things are sounding and can’t wait to get new tunes out. We’re hitting the road this July with our friends in Convikt and Dew for a run of shows around Ontario, then we’ll be playing shows all throughout the fall as we always do.
From The Strait: Drop some links! Social, streaming, anywhere for people to find you and dive right in.
Colider: We got all our links on a convenient linktree, but we’re most active on Instagram.
