About Matthew Ryan Jacobs
Matthew Ryan Jacobs is a musician and songwriter based in Kitchener-Waterloo, ON. He started out playing in rock and alternative bands throughout Ontario in the 2000s and opened for many notable artists early in his career.
In 2019 he made the move to focus on his solo career, and to create the music he was most passionate about. His first EP was released in 2021 and blends elements of folk, delta blues, soul, and rock, and was quickly followed up with another single “The River” (“This is truly excellent. Love it. Well done.” – Alan Cross on “The River”). After releasing several more singles, Matthew put out a follow-up EP The Trouble in Me in 2023. A more mature, honest, and refined version of his songwriting; this release has taken the best elements of his previous work and created a unique blend of folk, soul, and rock.
Now with his latest self titled release, Matthew has taken another step forward in his writing while displaying a wider sonic landscape and more vulnerability in his lyrics; resulting in some of his best work yet.
Matthew has been described as an “Indie-Folk Gem” who offers “sincerity and vulnerability in its natural state brilliantly.”
ABOUT THE SELF-TITLED EP: release date: November 14, 2025
“The EP is self titled and a collection of songs that were written and recorded over the last year. I’m really happy with this one, it’s a little darker than my last EP (The Trouble in Me) and I wasn’t really thinking about anyone else when we were making it. I actually told my producer Ben Kempel that this one was for me, so if I want the song to be six minutes long with an extended guitar solo, it will be. Not that we were trying to create something radio friendly or pop in the past, but we would try to keep the songs tighter in time and the playing more concise. Lyrically I tried to push a little deeper, which is always the goal, but it is strange to put that all out there for anyone to hear and probably misinterpret.
